Strengthening security through collaboration

With thanks to Jonathan Moore, Operations Director at Unitrust for providing this insightful article.

At Unitrust, we believe that everyone has a part to play in the management of major incidents.  Whilst our security teams will play a leading role in incident response, there are several other factors to be considered.  That’s why we regularly partner with the City of London Police to deliver tabletop exercises for our clients, helping them prepare for evolving security threats and improve crisis response.

These sessions provide an update on the UK’s current terrorist threat picture, ensuring businesses stay informed about potential risks they may be exposed to. They also include scenario-based exercises, escalating from identifying suspicious individuals to managing the impact of a marauding terrorist attack.

The goal is to challenge assumptions, encourage decision-making under pressure, and ensure that organisations are aware of actions that they may have to undertake.

A key focus of these exercises is tenant engagement. While professional security teams play a vital role, it’s essential that employees, facilities teams, and tenants understand their responsibilities in an emergency. The more people are aware of how to act, the more effectively they can respond, support one another, and minimise risk.

By fostering awareness, preparedness, and collaboration, businesses can build resilience against evolving security threats.

Proactive planning saves lives, and through regular training and partnership with law enforcement, we help organisations develop the knowledge and confidence to identify risks and respond effectively.
